Prof.dr. W. Shadid is hoogleraar in interculturele communicatie aan de Universiteit van Tilburg en ssinds 1970 verbonden aan het departement van Culturele Antropologie en Ontwikkelingssociologie van Universiteit Leiden. Is in 1970 afgestudeerd in de Culturele Antropologie in Leiden. Hij geeft onderwijs en doet research op het terrein van integratie, interculturele communicatie en interetnische relaties, en in de 'kwantitatieve' en 'kwalitatieve' methoden en technieken van onderzoek. Hij is tevens lid van de cluster 'intercultural Study of Literature and Society' van de 'Research School of Asian, African and Amerindian Studies' (CNWS) te Leiden. Een van zijn belangrijke werken is zijn handboek over interculturele communicatie. Ook heeft hij vele andere publicaties op het terrein van de multiculturele samenleving en interetnische verhoudingen in het algemeen, in het bijzonder het boek "Moslims in Nederland".
